well, there's also a third, why so? because this lucky friend of mine had a three-day celebration!!!
straight after we checked out at noon, we headed to Joo Chiat in search for good food.
the weather was totally unpredictable, it poured heavily in the morning but was sunny afterwards.
there were some cravings for LAKSA but eventually we decided on something healthier,
YONG TAU FOO
This plate + 4 bowls of rice costed us twenty over bucks, each item is $0.70
Verdict: Lousy service + slightly above average food + maybe slightly overpriced
oh, and they only serve 1 beverage - sour plum drink at $1.80 per cup,
and no noodles, no bee hoon, just rice.
We were thinking of what to do after lunch and again, random ideas were thrown up,
such as playing mahjong, watching movies, go ktv-ing.
Ms little smartie, me, suggested baking Easter Egg Cookies since it was a good friday.
As a group, we have never really got together to do some baking.
And what's a cozy way to stay at home yet have fun!
So, we headed to Phoon Huat to get some ingredients, and then to Diaso to get the cookies shape cutters, and finally to NTUC for the necessities.
We googled to find a recipe and decided on something like
THIS,
but they turned out to be like
THAT
burnt for the first round...
These are butter sugar cookies, are they meant to be hard???
don't judge these cookies by their looks, they taste a tad hard but I reckoned the estimation of all ingredients was correct, sweetness level was just right!
boy holding to his playboy lookalike cookie
two to three hours were spent on cookie making, and to 'dress up' our cookies,
we proceeded with the plan to do some icing on them
We added warm water to icing sugar, and added some vanilla extract + coloring
the chemical reaction is kinda amazing,
once you stir them all together, the mixture thickened,
which also means that it was not easy to decorate the cookies with them!
Ivan tried it out on his cookies,
hard to squeeze them out from a plastic bag we used to contain them
here are Kel's and Sharon's gingerbreadman, preetty cute huh?
I wasn't so adventurous to try the icing sugar coating, but I too, took a cookie and started spreading the icing sugar coating on it.
Here's my blue apple!
Eventually, we felt that it was way too tedious and the cookies tasted good enough without the toppings, so those above, were the only few we decorated, the rest are kept.
BAKING is sooo fun but the clearing up is madness!
think about the butter, the flour, the coloring etc etc etc.
OH MY GOD!!!
